Joomla 1.5 vs Joomla 1.6 Features

As we may know, Joomla 1.6.0 stable version has been released on 10 January 2011. This new version of joomla have a lot of changes compared from joomla 1.5. Below are the version 1.6 Beta Release Schedule:

* Beta1 released 17 May 2010
* Beta2 released 31 May 2010
* Beta3 released 14 June 2010
* Beta4 released 28 June 2010
* Beta5 released 12 July 2010
* Beta6 released 26 July 2010
* Beta7 released 9 August 2010
* Beta8 released 23 August 2010
* Beta9 released 6 September 2010
* Beta10 released 20 September 2010
* Beta11 released 04 October 2010
* Beta12 released 18 October 2010
* Beta13 released 1 November 2010
* Beta14 released 15 November 2010
* Beta15 released 29 November 2010
* RC1 released 13 December 2010
* Version 1.6.0 released 10 January 2011

If you read from joomla website, the broad goals of Joomla 1.6 are to:

* implement an expanded access control system;
* implement a nested categories solution;
* and standardise the way extensions are built using the MVC framework.

To achieve above goals, there are a lot of works and improvements to be done. Here are some of the changes in joomla 1.6 that i can share out based on my research.

1. Better access controls
2. Flexible category structure
3. Joomla 1.6 has more support for multi-lingual sites
4. Better Media Manager
5. More control on template manager
6. Better module assignment
